redsnow: (what the hell did you do to me)

▷ First Impressions
▶ VISUAL: He's 5'10" and 150lbs, and most of his muscle is in his arms! He's fit, overall, even if the rest of him is kind of skinny. He makes for a pretty boy with his long, red hair that curls at the bottom and his blue eyes. His skin is pretty flawless, too. Yep.
▶ AURAL: He does have a deep voice but he's often playing around with it to the point where he can get very high-pitched. Think your typical perverted, joking but serious when he needs to be type voice. His vocabulary can be quite impressive if it's needed, but he can also be lazy and casual with things. He draws out words for teasing and deepens his voice if he's jokingly trying to be flirty or faux-serious, but his normal, actually-serious way of speaking is a bit deep and slower than he normally talks.
▶ OLFACTORY: He smells like roses and shampoo and nice cologne that isn't too strong. He's very aware of his appearance, and smell counts into that, so you won't catch him smelling gross most of the time!
▶ DEMEANOUR: His posture is very telling. Usually he carries himself confidently and tall. He has decent posture-- but nothing too stiff. It's casual and carefree in the way he places his arms (crossed, on his hips, shrugging often) and walks (often his arms behind his head or some other casual placement). He tends to gesture with his hands a lot while communicating, as well, whether to wave off subjects he doesn't want to talk about or try to push a point he really wants to make.
▷ IC Permissions
▶ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Sure!
▶ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Sure!
▶ RELATIONSHIPS: Sure, but you'll have to get past his walls for anything serious!
▶ PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION: I'm down for this kind of thing, but just hit me up to talk it out!
▶ MAGICAL INFORMATION: He has a gem on his chest that contains a dead human's soul, and he's also an angel because of it. He's still human, just an evolved human, sort of.
▶ MEDICAL INFORMATION: Healthy and fit! Everything is like that of a normal human but with slightly higher reflexes and strength.
▶ OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: Things that offend him are as follows: parent issues (bad parents specifically), caste differences, snow, trust, "justice", traitor stuff. As far as topics that he might bring up, there's neglect from his parents in his backstory, and other than that he just flirts a lot and can be crude. I'll never have him take things too far, but let me know if you're not interested in him doing that. He can take a hint.
▷ OOC Permissions
▶ BACKTAGGING: To a point! I tend to be fast paced, so sometimes I drop older threads in favor of new ones. I'm always open to handwaving or making exceptions!
▶ THREADHOPPING: Sure! Just ask if it's a serious thread. Silly ones you don't have to ask.
▶ FOURTHWALLING: No, please.
▶ OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: None.

▶ ANYTHING ELSE? Nah

Character Name: Zelos Wilder
Canon: Tales of Symphonia
Canon Point: Kratos end before the betrayal

About:
To start with, Zelos is flirtatious, immature and obnoxiously cheerful. He presents himself this way without holding back, practically marching around and declaring his narcissistic and selfish idiocy. This is, of course, an act. He wears this "mask" in order to run away from dealing with all of the problems in his life.

Zelos is actually incredibly perceptive. This is something nodded to in various ways throughout the game. He somehow recognizes Regal after meeting him only once when he was 6, taking in clues like his speech and knowledge of the Toize Valley Mine to discover he truly is the man he remembers. Often times Zelos is shown recognizing that something is off and being baffled that the party doesn't seem to either care or notice these things, like the example with Regal, or having Mithos as a companion for some time. He was also the only one who knew how to truly help Sheena when she lost Corrine, realizing that speaking too much about it was doing more harm than good. It shows he's surprisingly sensitive. This sensitive nature is something most people don't get to see, and when it appears most people aren't even inclined to believe it as such. Acting stupid all of the time makes it so that when he genuinely is suggesting something for the better of someone, it's not usually caught on by the others. Or if it is, it's too late to say anything about it. He cares deeply about his little sister, for example, though if anyone asks about her he'll claim that she hates him and joke about how he's "well loved, aren't I?" Any questions about whether he cares about her would be met with indifference or a flat out no, though as the story progresses you realize how much he's really lying. In his bad ending, it's possible for the entire party to miss these clues until he's already gone, showing just how hard it can be to get past his shallow side.

This mask of his aside, he does hope he'll be caught in his lying. He'll often leave small clues to what he's doing or thinking just to see who will catch on, usually disappointing himself in the process. He tests all of his relationships with both his mask and these subtle clues to see if the person in question has a mere passing interest in him or truly cares. This is shown throughout the game, and most noticeably in a second playthrough, as he very blatantly spells out lines about traitors, or makes his excuses very poor, most often to no avail. He's written off so often as purely obnoxious that very few of his hints are spotted.

Zelos also has a deep self loathing for both himself and his title as Chosen. Due to having such a tragic history, Zelos has grown tired and bitter of trying to deal with things like this, causing him to make mistakes and "run away" at any chance he can. This is the reason for his being on multiple sides at once, betraying everyone and acting selfishly, as well as putting forth such a narcissistic act. He's also very guarded because of this, refusing to get too close to people until he tests them, and even then it takes time for him to open up. Even Sheena, who he obviously has a long and rather close friendship with doesn't know much about Zelos' true self at all.

This "mask" that he's developed over the years is what he's truly seen as by people who can't see past it. Lloyd is the only one who manages to see past it, and even still it's not a consistent thing. Zelos appreciates his naive and instant reactions like "I don't think it matters that you're the Chosen," feeling like Lloyd actually sees him for who he is and doesn't treat him differently for his title alone. The actual change that causes Zelos to die in one ending instead of run away with Colette and Pronyma is all due to how Lloyd treats him during the course of the story, most clearly revealed in his last changing line. One line implies that Lloyd still trusts him, while the other implies that he used to and no longer does. Hearing the latter is what he fears the most, and losing all hope at that moment, he fights them in order to die.

To go more in depth about what sort of person he acts like, he's known throughout the world, and soon enough, both worlds, as a flirt. He has charm, and with that he's able to gain items from any lady he speaks to. This charm along with his power as Chosen has helped him take advantage of many people over the years, and so that's something he's used to doing and also hates about himself. He acts stupid and goofy on purpose, loudly exclaiming things in a teasing manner when the group is trying to focus, or flirting with the girls of the party at inappropriate times. Because of this, when he does say something serious, most people write it off as Zelos being an idiot again and ignore him. Basically? He can get away with a lot.

He also uses this sort of personality to avoid talking about himself or facing problems directly. When he's upset, he's usually even more obnoxious than usual, and therefore even more not himself. Most people don't pick up on this, and so Zelos ends up doing many selfless things without anyone knowing. He may act like a spazz and seem really rude, but it's only when the group stops to look back and really pay attention that they realize Zelos was doing them a favor, even at his own expense.

At the end of the game, if he's still alive it's shown in a scene that his greatest flaw is his desire to run from everything. In another cut scene, too, he tells Lloyd he wishes everything would just disappear. This lack of self worth is so great it's really eaten up his will to live and any hope that things can get better, so while he jokes around and laughs and makes a fool of himself, he's really suffering on the inside. All the while, he tries to help those he likes, giving them sound advice to lead them to better paths than the one he's on, and providing the magic words: whatever will be, will be. Zelos continues to grow through the course of the game and after it, learning that he can be brave and he needs to. Through this, he can slowly become more openly genuine, and give in to his fear less and less.

Inventory: His clothes, his sword, 5 lemon gels, 1 panacea bottle, some spare gald, his cruxis crystal (attached to his chest), his exsphere
Feature Type: Red wolf. Ears and a tail!
What are your plans with this character? Taking Zelos from this end doesn't change his character, but it does have him stuck on the end of things where he hasn't connected with anyone yet. I'm excited to throw him into a situation where he has to get used to new things and meet people and see how he develops!

Abilities:
    Fighting:
As the Chosen of Tethe'alla and an ally of Cruxis from the start, Zelos of course is very familiar with battle techniques. First of all, most obviously, is his ability with a sword. He's swift and fluid in his motions, often throwing in what almost looks like a dancing style to his fighting in every adaption of the canon. He's not stiff at all and is actually shown to be pretty acrobatic in his movements, making use of things like kicking with his feet or kneeing people in the gut even while sword fighting. Simply put, he can hold his own in a fight.

    Skills/Artes:
In Tales of Symphonia, characters are capable of learning skills to go along with their fighting styles. Zelos has a handful of sword skills that can be found over here (Lv1-Lv3). Some have elemental attributes and others simply work to show off his fluid, spinning sort of way with fighting, adding an extra boost to certain hits of his.

    Magic:
On top of all of this, Zelos is actually a magic swordsman! Normally humans can't use magic in Tales of Symphonia, but because he ingested a strange rock called Aionis, Zelos is able to cast magic. His spell list is here (Novice Spells, Mid spells), showing that he's capable of casting both offensive magic in a variety of elements and healing magic.

    Angelic Abilities:
Oh yeah, he's also an angel. Both revealed in his bad-end betrayal and the second game, Zelos is able to reveal orange/golden wings that allow him to fly (though no one seems to rely on those for very long in game) and some magic abilities that are listed here (Angel skills, Hidden Lv3 Special Attacks). They're all light spells that only angels can learn, and a couple of them are super powerful, but nothing he'd use out of nowhere at least. It's likely most (if not all) people won't even come to learn he's an angel. The 'special attacks', by the way, are moves that require him to be under a lot of stress and in a very tight situation to use, and are unlockable thanks to his angel spells, so I'll group them here.

    Exsphere/Cruxis Crystal
To avoid making this section too long, I'm going to try to summarize this by saying that Exspheres and Cruxis Crystals are basically power up rocks. He's not made god-levels of powerful, despite becoming an angel through using them. As a Chosen, he has a Cruxis Crystal. While we never see him go through any of this in game, it is implied through Kratos' similar changes and the state of other angels in the game that it's possible Zelos may not be able to sleep or age and may have better than average hearing and sight after his current canon point (and possibly before then). As Zelos is pretty much the weakest angel in the game, I'll be playing this very sparsely and with him having no control over any of the better than average sight or hearing. Sometimes he can do it, sometimes he can't— that sort of thing.

Alignment: Piphron! Zelos has a clear connection with trust and distrust, blatantly distrusting everyone and worrying that he's untrustworthy himself— his main issue is that he wants to be trusted.

Other: Nothing to add!
